Last week I told you about a box that I have found in my garage
I have now moved on to the next stage.
For this I have coated it all in Deep Teal acrylic paint and allowed it to dry.
For this I have coated it all in Deep Teal acrylic paint and allowed it to dry.
My plan was to give it another coat but as it dried it was all streaky and it looked amazing and so I decided to leave it as it was.
Once the paint was completely dry I took some Gilding wax in Pewter and with a soft cloth I rubbed it into the grain of the wood
I wanted to maintain the streaky look and so I add the wax in long strokes to both the inside and out
I buffed all the wax up to a soft gleam with a cloth and once the light catches it it looks lovely and I am very happy with it so far
I still don't know what I will use it for yet but I am enjoying the process.
More tomorrow ...

Hi Christina
ReplyDeleteThe box is looking good. A teal shabby chic effect I think. What a good idea to use the guilding wax for a shimmer effect. I'm sure it will cone in very useful for bits and bobs

Morning, Christina,
ReplyDeleteI'm loving this project a lot. I think it's all the more interesting as you don't quite know yet what you'll use the box for when it's finished :). I love the teal paint. I have to say that's a technique (streaks) I can manage without even trying lol. I've just bought a 12" x 12" box frame from Wilko that's begging for me to do something to it as it's plain wood...maybe I'll give this a try...of to search the web for some gilding wax as I'm ashamed to admit that I don't havre a single pot in my stash...bad girl that I am!
