My Christmas Break
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and that Santa Claus brought you what ever you wished for.
My plan was to go away for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and return home on Boxing Day and Vickie and I had looked forward to it since we booked it in September.
We took the dogs with us and planned on some long walks even if it was cold and wet.
The day before we left, the wind blew my car door shut and trapped two fingers on my right hand. It wasn't until I got inside and turned on the light that I saw that they had been cut quite badly and I was bleeding ... but at least they were not broken.
Still off we went and arrived at 2pm, in time for a glass of mulled wine and homemade cream tea, which was lovely. Then we where shown to our room which on the face of it also looked lovely.
We took the dogs for a walk and then returned to get ready for our evening meal at 7pm.
The next day we walked again getting back in time to get ready.
We had family coming to join us for Christmas Dinner, for what we hoped would be a lovely day.
I won't go into details but it all went very badly downhill.
Altogether we where very disappointed with the place, the service and the food and we will not be going back again.
Jamie, who is a chef, was really annoyed at the quality of the lukewarm food, and many of our guests left what was presented to them over the three courses. I don't think Isabella ate much at all
On Boxing Day before we left to come home, Vickie asked to speak to the manager. He asked " Is there an issue ?" she said "Yes... several"
She was very calm and polite, but by then the whole break had been ruined for us.
And believe me it was not a cheap break and so not worth it. I would not recommend it to anybody.
I hope yours was better !!!
More tomorrow ...
Hugs xx
I keep saying we go out for Christmas dinner one year, but I keep reading bad reviews I think we I’ll stick to what we know! Shame you didn’t enjoy it! As you say not cheap either! Hope you had a nice rest for the rest of the holidays

ReplyDeleteMichele Coffey.
Ooo, my fingers hurt just reading about your injury. I hope you're better by now. I'm always learning something from you, Christina. I read about the cream tea, so I googled it to see what kind of tea it was and learned that it's the food and tea. I gather it's not a complete meal, but mainly tea and desserts. I would love to visit Great Britain and try some of these various treats with tea. Well, I'd love to see the sights too, but the teas sound so interesting. Great pictures of Ruby..she's so regal..and Ella. I have a cat that looks kind of like her. I also just found out about snowdrops. I looked them up and they only grow in cool climates, so we don't have them here in Florida. Sorry for rambling. Sherry Hay

I am sorry your Christmas holiday did not turn out as planned and I completely understand how disappointing that can be. I was in the hospital for 5 nights and went home finally on Christmas Eve at 8:45 pm. With increasing health issues over the three weeks leading up to Christmas, we had not done any shopping and nothing was open that late on Christmas Eve for groceries. My husband and I were supposed to join my family at my son’s house for Christmas dinner but I just wasn’t physically able to go. Our Christmas dinner wasn’t much but I was so thankful to be home that it didn’t matter. After two blood transfusions and an iron infusion, I still have a long road ahead to fully recover and will need more infusions on a regular basis but I’m happy to know what was making me so sick and that there is treatment. I’ve had anemia off and on in my life but this time it hit me hard and silently until I had an outpatient surgery 3 weeks ago. That was enough for my body to crash and it did, including scaring my poor husband when I passed out in front of him. I’m still trying to understand why the doctor didn’t know I was severely anemic before surgery. It’s something I think should have been checked! In spite of everything, I am thankful for so many things as this year comes to an end and I hope to remain thankful for all the blessings in my life as 2024 begins.
ReplyDeleteI hope your fingers are healing well, Christina, and I think it’s amazing that you didn’t break any. Give Ruby a hug from this friend across the pond! Happy New Year!

I'm so sorry to read about your Christmas experience and your poor hand. Wishing you all the best for 2024. I love snowdrops. Lynn Brown
ReplyDeleteOh dear Christina, I am so sorry to read about your disappointing trip away after injuring your fingers, accidents happen at the most inopportune times. I hope they are feeling a whole lot better. If I was you I would demand a refund of your stay, if not put a 'lovely' review on trip advisor about them. I can just imagine how much you paid for such poor service and food...they need to 'buck up their ideas' if they expect custom in the future. Hopefully it has not stopped you from trying again somewhere else next time. I wish you and your family all the very best for 2024, may it be a happy, healthy one for you.....lots of love, Ursula Longworth....xxx
ReplyDeleteA Christmas you wont forget in a hurry. I hope your fingers heal quickly. It's always a gamble eating out on Christmas day , my big bugbear at anytime of the year is cold food that should be hot. I always complain in the hope they up their game.
