When we make cards there is such a lot of card that we discard.
But with just a little thought and some planning ahead we can put it to good use and make some pretty cards.
I needed some butterflies for another card that I was making and I used the Spellbinders Les Papillions Two
I used the solid base to the die and rather than just cut it out randomly I carefully positioned one on some card that I would use for my top layer
Once cut and embossed this negative piece was the piece I used for this card. I also cut another piece in pink and used it underneath as a shadow but the butterflies have been kept safely for the next card
The pink card in the negative space says "Happy Birthday" and is from AnnaMarie Designs
The embossing folder is from Crafters Companion
I used a large flourish from Want2Scrap for the butterfly trail
And there is my free sentiment again from Simply Cards and Papercrafts Magazine stamped and embossed at the bottom of the card.
It really was that simple to make this card and yet the result is very pretty
More tomorrow ...
Hugs xx

ReplyDeleteStunning card Christina, love the negative idea, will have to try it x
ReplyDeleteHi Christina,
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THIS!!! My two most favourite things are butterflies and owls, so even if you had just used the positive dies cuts I would have been happy. However, you've shown us that if we're careful about where we position the die, we don't end up with waste cardstock but with a wonderful layer for our cards...I'm off to look at my butterfly dies to see which I can play with. x
Good Morning Christina :) Beautiful, Beautiful Card this morning. Love the title too! Thank you so much for sharing. Enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Card Christina, and a great way to use up negative cut outs too! love the colours! Thanks for sharing this great tip with us!

Hello Christina,
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how a little thinking and planning can turn something "negative into something positive".
Really lovely card.
Thanks for sharing.
Beverly
I love making use of all the bits from my die cuts! Why waste paper when it can be used again? This is a very pretty card! TFS!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card Christina. I just love the simplicity of it and perfectly placing the die cut will reduce so much waste. Thanks for sharing with us. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card, love the simplicity.
ReplyDeleteThis really appeals to me, my kind of thing

This is a very pretty card using the negative piece. Thanks for sharing Dianne
ReplyDeleteI need to think ahead before I cut anything. I usually just try to get as many die cuts as possible because I hate throwing anything except the smallest scrap in the bin. Will try to think this way at times.

Lovely card Christina, great idea to use the negative piece. Pat x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card Christina x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful use of a 'shape' instead of the piece that was cut out ;). I keep 'shapes' to use as it is wasteful, in my opinion, when they look as lovely when used as this has been. Another idea is to use this type of base and also add the cut out to look as if it has flown off the page. You are very creative and resourceful! Xx
ReplyDeleteJust outstanding. I keep negative cuts and find places to use them for scrapbooks. I will now think ahead for my cards before I cut them. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteSo creative..love it!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful! I don't understand, though, how you did the shadow. The bottom butterfly looks smaller than the top, yet the dies are the same size?
ReplyDeleteHi its a beautiful card can you please tell me where can I buy the big butterfly_
