Beautiful Card Designs Made Easy

May 21, 2013

Un published Comment

I have had a comment from someone earlier today,  who has more or less told me off about copying and yet not crediting my cards as based on someone elses'  Spellbinders cards ....  and I would like to get something very clear ....

There are hundreds of different dies and hundreds of people who use them to make their cards ... and so hundreds of people can all have the same or similar idea at any one time.  I am in the very  lucky position to have many many dies and I like to play to come up with these ideas that are pleasing and easy to recreate by anybody.

The Spellbinders blog has many tutorials on how to use  their product and get the best from them ... and there are hundreds ... if not thousands ... of YouTube Videos on how to use them too.  All there for everybody to take and use in their own special way.   I myself  have many videos on using Spellbinders on YouTube that have been around for a few years now.

I mean no disrespect to lots of very talented cardmakers ... who also use these dies ... but I have no need to copy their work and claim it as my own.    The cards I make are from my head and having the time to play around with all the different shapes ... seeing what works with what and putting them together.

I  always take the time to credit items or ideas on my blog to the people who deserve the credit and I have hundreds of links to other blogs, websites and companies both on here and on Card Making Magic that can attest to that fact.

I have not published the comment as I find it quite offensive and it's not the first time this person has written to me on the same subject.

Lots of people take my ideas, or my free papers and use them   and I don't get upset or expect it when I don't get the credit for that.   So please no more comments or emails ... I find them very tiring.  And how would you know that the idea didn't come from me in the first place ?????

  2. Oh Christina, how disheartening for you! But please try to ignore this nasty person. As you say you have so much crafty stash (wish I had just small percentage!)that you can use just about anything. It's understandable if occasionally someone might see a vague similarity to something else. Please don't get upset about this. Your blog and website give us all, and certainly me, so much inspiration!! This person, whoever it is, sounds to lead a very sad life. Just ignore it and carry on as usual. Love and hugs from Christine xx

  5. I have had the same thing happen to me when cross stitching, I have started out small with creating my own patterns for beaded pins and had someone tell me that I stole the pattern, funny that is because I still have the graph paper I drew it out on by hand. Very well said and I love your designs, when I do use someone else's idea I too credit them and have even asked permission before doing so. I have seen you credit those ppl when you have used their product or design idea, so I would not worry about it too much. There will always be jealous ppl out there that have a NEED to be pissy about something because they don't have the talent, following or originality you do. Your cards and ideas for tools and alted work are an inspiration, kept it up please :D

  6. You are so very right Christina...in fact a talented person like you doesn't need anyone else's 'ideas'.. We all know your talent and you have been an inspiration for hundreds of us! I started cardmaking only after watching your videos...I learnt the basics from you!! Dont bother about such people...you are doing great work...:):)

  7. Hi Christina, I wouldn't worry about the unkind comments, some people have too much time on their hands! I'm sure there are more people that are grateful that you share your ideas. After all the dies can be freely purchased and used as people want and no one has copyrights on anything that is produced with them.
Just want to thank you for all your hard work, sharing your idea's and passing on your knowledge and inspiring me to take the plunge to try creating some wonderful cards. I'm new to making cards and follow your u tube videos and blog which give me the courage to try different things out and play around with the spellbinders dies. To date I have made a half dozen cards using the 5 sets of spellbinders dies I have so far purchased,(none as good as yours), but they have had the "wow" response from the recipient so i'm happy with that.
Looking forward to many more of your teachings.
    Lynn Charman.

  8. Hello Christine,
(((((Hugs))))) people can be so cruel. They are the ones we do not need in the Crafting Community.
I make lots of cards and thanks to you and your wonderful Tutorials I have made some great things. I suppose my Origami Boxes are a copy of yours and I thank you for that, but you taught me so of course they are very similar.
Keep up your fantastic work I enjoy everything you show and teach us.

  9. Hi Christina,
I am so sorry you are having some nasty person giving you grief in this way. I would suggest that any future comments or emails from this person, gets deleted unread, and come to that, you can block them on your email account so that they just don't get through. I would also like to say, that if this person or persons, don't like your site or the work that you do, then why visit your site in the first place??? Beats me!! I for one, LOVE the work you do and I love visiting your site! All the best Christina, and I hope you no longer have any bother! Hugs xxxx

  13. Hi Christina'
If this person spent more time making and giving cards they wouldn't have time to harass you. I have never seen any cards that even come close to the beauty of yours. I love all your videos and watch all the time. I finally made a card using your idea on the large oval die. Not as nice as yours for my first one but got a lot of complements. So thank you. Watching and trying has given me self confidence to venture even further into card making. Keep the tutorials coming.
    Thanks so much

  14. Hi Christina
I'm not sure of exactly how many followers you have both on your blog and on YouTube but I'm willing to bet that for every nasty comment you might get you have 1000 people who adore you. Personally I love your way of 'teaching' and I truly enjoy the creations you come up with. Forget the one nasty person who has nothing better to do than insult someone who doesn't deserve it, focus on all the people who look forward to all of your projects. I wouldn't even give this attention seeking individual another minute.

  15. Ignore ignore ignore. Whatever this person has said probably says more about them than you. You are a talented and generous crafter who inspires the rest of us mere mortals. I would like to think that the world of crafting is one of sharing expertise and not being precious and critical of other crafters.

  16. Hi Christina you are a remarkable and very talented crafter and you give me inspiration every day I have taken some of your ideas and given them a little tweak here and there and I wouldn't get very far without your help...this person must not have a lot to do or is most likely very envious of you...so ignore it...

    Hugs & hugs

We don't need ideas from others thats what mass production companies do. Just keep doing what you do best! best wishes xx

  21. Dear Christina,
I'm so sorry this has happened to you. Your ideas are wonderful and creative. I do believe that anyone that says negativity about anyone's creativity is just plain jealous and green with envy. You have and will always be my inspiration. Please continue inspiring us and just smile that someone considers you so good at what you do, you seem to threaten them.

  22. Hi Christina. It's jealousy - from someone who can't come up with ideas of their own, and who also has not got any spellbinders!
Ignore them, and DO NOT lose any sleep over this.
They need to get a life.
    Keep up the great work.

  23. Hi Christina, just read your status on facebook, just ignore the unjustified and ridiculous comments, your work is fantastic and an inspiration to us all, you are very very talented. Whoever this person is, is just not worth a second thought.

    Hope you are ok.

    Best wishes xxx

  24. Ignore this person...it's all done out of jealousy. Some people have to tear others down so they themselves can be on top. We are beyond that kind of behavior (childish). Just ignore comments like that and continue to do your thing...give your best and keep your heart and mind pure. You are a winner. I love your work!

  31. Dear Christina, take heart! You know who and what you are. My mom used to say something to us when we experience bad attention from other people. I'm not sure how to literally put it in English but she said, a tree filled with fruits is usually stoned. Meaning that being productive and fruitful will always attract attention, good and bad. There will always be someone who would want to pull you down because of envy or just poor judgement. But you have lots of followers who truly love and support you.:-)

  32. Christina;
I am so sad to think that someone would be so unkind to you. You have given me so much help in learning how to use the dies, and embellishments. I would not be able to do a lot of the cards that I do if it was not for you. Please know that I do thank you from my heart for everything you do for us. Please don't let this person upset you. You are the best and I wish I lived close to you as I consider you a dear friend even if only by internet. THANK YOU for being you.

  33. Well said Christine. Please continue to provide this service as you have many adoring fans. Whatever happened to "if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything"? It's totally fine and within someone's right to voice their opinion, but to deliberately hurt someone with words is uncalled for. If this person doesn't like your work and what you do then it's just as easy for that person to not look! Again, please continue to provide us with your talent, inspiration, and encouragement. Hugs, Renee

  34. Christina.... I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this type of person... but you don't have to put up with them anymore. Unfortunately, there are some people out there who feel they have to tear you down in order to make themselves feel better about themselves. (I know this as fact, because my daughter dated one for several years before finally kicking him out of her life).... you need to 'kick this person out' too!

I agree with Kazzie Ice's comment above, that if you get any future comments from this person, just delete them UNREAD!!! Don't even glance at them, so that their poisonous thoughts don't affect you in any way. Do not give them a second thought.... just hit "delete"! And if that person is emailing you as well... same thing... hit "delete" immediately or have them blocked altogether. Don't read anything else they EVER send you.

Know that you're loved by many others worldwide, who appreciate your talent and teachings. That's who your target audience is, not someone who is a self-appointed card-making critic who doesn't know what they're talking about!!!

Keep up your beautiful work, your wonderfully informative videos, and your kind, sharing spirit that makes you, YOU!... hugs :)

  36. Christina, your cards are unique. I've seen nothing like them anywhere else. But even if you did use someone else's cards as a basis - which we know you didn't - then there's nothing wrong with that. It's called CASEing.

People who put their cards on the net know (and often expect) that others may use their designs, or make something similar.

Some people are unfortunately just nasty. As you would know by the comments you get, the majority are very nice people.

There's always one who has to spoil the fun for the rest.

  37. Christine, your response on your blog is magnificent. Positive and to the point - lovely! There are some who live on vitriol and malice and it seems to me that this person is one of those. (I must say there's a part of me that is dead curious as to what they actually said as well as then being able to say my piece directly to them!!!!)
We love YOUR work, YOUR ideas and Your Tutorials. The dies are the common tool and as you say millions use them. IF and it is a big IF there are some similarities then maybe it's because the same die is being used!!! The fact is you are hugely talented and more accessible than many blogs I visit. You help us to be successful and more confident in our own way - isn't that really what it's all about??? That's why I enjoy this community - I love being a crafter and really enjoy the creative process - often inspired by you and others!

  39. Christina, so sorry you have been subject to such a mindless comment. I first became a follower when I found your videos on you tube. You inspired me to buy my first 5 sets of spellbinders and I have not stopped since. Your ideas are inspirational, and I often refer back to them when I need ideas for a special card. Everyone I give a card to loves them and much of that is down to you. So keep on crafting and sharing with your fans,
    Love. Linda

  42. How very sad that someone is being so nasty to you. We love your cards, and find lots of inspiration on your site for many techniques. I agree with one of the others who mentioned that people who share their projects and ideas will have those ideas used by others. I always put my own spin on anything that I try, but the dies, stamps, etc are for use by anyone who owns them, so similar projects are out there. Please delete or block that nasty person, and keep sharing your talents with us. Thank you. BethAnn M.

  43. There are a lot of people with personal problems that don't have anything to make with their negative time, and they give it to other persons, thinking they are building a better world. Anyway, you musn't think about that kind of people, and waste your time with them, you must realize that your work for this better world they want to build, without any doubt, is better: the best and most beautiful contribution. Lots of love from Spain.

  50. Bravo Christina! I love the way you elegantly put your statements to the ignorant person that wrote to you! I like many others would like to say thank you for the things you have taught me in card making, even though you don't know me from a hill of beans, and by the way, in teaching me, you have taught countless children that you don't know also. I am a high school English teacher in the U.S. and as special writing projects, I teach my students some of the things you have shown on your videos, and let them use my "limited" dies to make cards. So far, we have helped the Senior Class raise money and the students have made lovely cards for their parents or whoever they choose, while getting a good grade as they practice their writing skills in the inside of the card. So to this cowardly person who hides behind not having to show who they are, shut up and go watch someone else's videos, if Christina's bother you that much. Again thank you for your kindness and generosity. Bonnie Gill

I enjoy your video's and tutorials a great deal I use them for inspiration you are a true marvel at what you do, don't let anyone say you ain't. I have looked for various dies on the Internet etc and like you think the spellbinder dies come out tops. Thank you Christina and keep up the good work.
We still love you and your creations.
